My dress was just like Meghan’s!

-

DOES my wedding dress from 1964 look familiar (above right)? Its design shows that fashions do come back with time. I loved Meghan’s wedding gown (above left) — it was simple, but classic, and suited her figure, as did mine at the time. Sadly, I no longer have my wedding dress, which was made by a local dressmaker, but if I did it would not fit me. The 8st, 19-year-old bride has long gone, as have the 54 years since my wedding.

HOW ironic that Meghan wore Queen Mary’s art deco tiara at her wedding to Prince Harry. The former Queen Consort was opposed to her son, Edward VIII, marrying an American divorcee. She would also have been surprised that so few royal descendants were invited to Harry’s wedding, with most of the younger Kents and Gloucesters conspicuous by their absence. Princess Michael of Kent didn’t live up to her nickname of Princess Pushy to secure an invite for her son, Lord Frederick, or her daughter, Lady Gabriella. I would have preferred more royals, and fewer celebrities air-kissing and chatting in St George’s Chapel as if they were at a pool party in Beverly Hills.
