THE BOMBSHELL CLAIMS

-

In the Al Jazeera documentary, Indian match-fixer Aneel Munawar tells an undercover reporter in the build-up to the Chennai Test that a fix has been arranged. Names and numbers have been redacted for legal reasons.

Munawar says: ‘In Chennai, definitely. I will inform you after the toss. When the match starts and when the (betting) market opens. At that time, it will be finalised if the session will come for 20 overs or 40 overs or 10 overs. We’ll use WhatsApp to call.’ The reporter then asks which team are involved in the fix. Munawar says: ‘England. When is the fixing? I will tell you on Friday morning. After the toss.’ Once the toss has taken place, Munawar calls the reporter: ‘Yes the toss has happened, as you must have seen. Now the

th over session will come. OK, so we count for overs. I will call you after overs, in the very next one, the th over. And I give you how many runs will come. In the th over.’ Munawar calls again: ‘OK, let them know it will open to runs. The market, OK? Market is open to runs.’ Munawar adds: ‘And the last over is going to be a manda (an over in which no more than two runs are scored). Bet as much as you can. I’m a little busy.’ In a later meeting with the reporter, Munawar says that three England players were involved in the fix: ‘Actually, that match, actually, , and These players were involved.’
