Down-to-earth Lords
HERE is my plan to drain the swamp that is the House of Lords. Remove the hereditary peers and bishops. Introduce a three-year limit on the term that life peers can serve.
As Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own parliaments and assemblies, their Westminster MPs should be in the upper House.
Make appointments based on that used to appoint jurors. The new intake would come from a crosssection of the population — people who have their feet on the ground, unlike the metropolitan elite.
