WILL WE GET A BREXIT COIN?

-

A BREXIT coin to mark the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union has received the tentative backing of the Treasury.

Robert Jenrick, the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, said ‘there could be an argument for’ a Brexit coin, which could be used to ‘commemorate the next chapter in our national story’.

Tory MPs have called for the coin to feature Britannia. Sir Bill Cash, chairman of the European Scrutiny Committee, said: ‘I would go back to the symbolism of the coinage before 1972 ... and to do that I would say the Queen’s head plus Britannia with the shield and a Union Jack on the shield.’
