Copperfield not liable for injuries
DAVID Copperfield will not have to pay for injuries suffered by a British tourist who took part in one of his magic shows.
A Las Vegas jury found the magician, pictured top, negligent but not financially responsible for the £300,000 medical costs claimed by Gavin Cox, below, for brain damage.
Mr Cox, 57, a former chef from Broadstairs, Kent, slipped and fell during Mr Copperfield’s Lucky13 trick in which he makes 13 audience members disappear.
Mr Copperfield was forced to disclose to the court that the trick used a hidden passageway.
The tourist also took action against two businesses owned by Mr Copperfield, the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas, where he performed, and a construction firm renovating the site.
Jurors found Mr Cox’s injuries were 100 per cent attributable to him but Mr Copperfield and MGM were negligent as they should have looked more into previous falls.
