How to clean up in the business world

- LINDA WHITNEY

CLEANING and home makeover businesses combine the creative pleasure of transformation with the opportunity to make money.

Nicola Pearson left her job with a London media agency to start an Apollo Blinds franchise.

Nicola, 38, says: ‘I wanted a new challenge building my own business and more control, flexibility and time with my husband and children Isla, eight, and five-year-old Stanley.’

Nicola, from Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, says: ‘The best thing is seeing the delight on customers’ faces when they see how our blinds transform their rooms.’

Nicola is now buying a second Apollo Blinds franchise.

Apollo Blinds’ national sales manager Matt Thomas says: ‘We look for passionate and dedicated people. You don’t need DIY skills as we provide installation training and field support.’ The franchise costs £17,000.

After 20 years running Merry Maids domestic cleaning franchises, Susan Hawkin, 55, wanted a fresh challenge — so she sold the companies to buy IT hygiene franchise Techclean.

Susan says: ‘Having managed cleaning businesses, I could hit the ground running with Techclean and I enjoy the challenge of a new business environment.’

Nigel Toplis, managing director of Techclean, says: ‘Techclean has over 30 years’ experience in IT hygiene and is a lowinvestment, high-yield business opportunity.’

The franchise costs £19,500.

Apollo Blinds 0800 852 7400, Techclean 01530 513300.
