Nuclear power fears
THE Japanese firm hoping to build a nuclear power station in north Wales wants to reduce its exposure to payouts in case of accidents, reports claim.
Hitachi is negotiating loan guarantees and subsidies from the UK government for the estimated £20bn Wylfa Newydd station in Anglesey.
But it also plans to ask for safeguards that reduce or eliminate its responsibility for accidents, the Nikkei Asian Review reported.
Hitachi agreed to continue negotiating with the UK government at a crunch board meeting on Monday. A spokesman for Horizon, the Hitachi subsidiary planning to build the plant, declined to comment on the progress of discussions.
