Fitness club’s founder leaves

THE founder of budget fitness club The Gym Group, John Treharne, is stepping down after 10 years.

The former England squash player will be replaced by chief financial officer Richard Darwin.

Treharne, 63, leaves after starting the business as a single site in west London in 2007, which has grown to 133 gyms across the country with 607,000 members.

It listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2015 and is now worth almost £322m. Last year, profits surged 25pc to £9.2m.
