Chinese slash import duties

-

CHINA is reducing import duties on washing machines, cosmetics and some other consumer goods amid US pressure to narrow its multi-billion-dollar trade surplus.

It is the third tariff cut in six months on selected imports. Duties on washing machines and fridges will be cut from 20.5pc to 8pc, from July 1.

Duties also will be cut on cosmetics, some drugs and shoes.

Beijing is in talks with Washington to narrow its trade surplus by increasing imports.
