Blitz on rogue funeral firms
UNSCRUPULOUS firms that pressure elderly people into buying overpriced funeral plans are to face a Government crackdown.
The Treasury will today unveil measures to help rein in firms accused of charging exorbitant fees and using high-pressure techniques to persuade people to part with thousands. This will include a consultation designed to place the pre-paid funeral sector under the regulation of the Financial Conduct Authority. James Daley, of Fairer Finance, said ‘clear rules’ were needed to tackle ‘predatory and exploitative’ salesmen.
