Cambridge double rapist is jailed for 20 years
A CAMBRIDGE graduate obsessed with Fifty Shades of Grey-style sex was jailed for 20 years yesterday after raping two women.
Edward Gabbai, 30, who considered himself a ‘sexual adventurer’ like the film’s main character, first forced himself on a Swedish woman he met on dating website Tinder.
She had initially consented to adopting a submissive role in the relationship until Gabbai – an entrepreneur who founded the World Boutique Hotel Awards – raped her in a flat in Stoke Newington, East London.
He also ‘strangled her so hard she could not breathe’ and bit her neck and ear, his trial at Kingston Upon Thames Crown Court heard. His second victim was a drunken stranger, whom he met on a night out before taking her back to an address where he was house-sitting and raping her.
Sarah Forshaw, defending, said that Gabbai ‘saw himself as a young sexual adventurer with several sexual partners, a poseur of the Christian Grey variety’.
She added: ‘The convictions mean the loss of a once promising career, and a relationship. He faces financial and reputational ruin and he faces disgrace.’
Gabbai, who has a PhD in microbiology and nanoscience, was handed a seven-year sentence and a 13-year sentence to run consecutively.
He was cleared of raping a 1 - year-old escort.
