Cyclist’s zombie knife frenzy leaves driver fearing for life

- By David Churchill d.churchill@dailymail.co.uk

THIS is the terrifying moment a thug on a bike launched a ‘zombie’ knife attack on a teenage motorist.

Chilling dashcam footage from another car shows the cyclist viciously stabbing at the car window with the jagged blade, which is almost 2ft long, as he attempts to get to the driver inside.

The incident began after the cyclist pulled up next to a stationary blue VW, which suddenly pulled out and sped off, almost knocking the man off his bike.

The thug then jumps off and catches up with the car, which becomes stuck between two vehicles in traffic as it tries to escape. Pulling out a so-called zombie knife – which have serrated edges and can measure up to 25 inches – he repeatedly stabs and slashes at the driver’s window in a terrifying onslaught.

After failing to smash through he tries to open the rear door to get into the car. Finding it locked, he then runs round the other side and manages to smash through the front passenger window with the blade, prompting the 19-yearold driver to jump out and run away unharmed. The thug then returns to his bike to follow him.

The footage shows high street shoppers watching in horror as the incident unfolded in Croydon, south London, on Wednesday afternoon. The horrifying incident is the latest in a knife epidemic blighting the capital, which has sent the murder rate soaring. There have been more than 70 suspected murders in London this year, with at least 43 of those down to knives. In April it was revealed London’s murder rate had overtaken New York’s.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘ Police were called on Wednesday, 30 May, at around 5pm to reports of males smashing a car window ... Officers established that the driver of the car was approached by a male in possession of a knife who smashed his window. The victim, in an attempt to escape collided with another vehicle, exiting on foot. He was followed by the suspect.

‘The victim later returned to his car after the suspect made off. There were no injuries reported and enquiries continue.’

Detective Inspector David Willis told the Sun: ‘Fortunately, nobody was injured in this incident, but the large knife seen in the footage has no place on the streets of London. We are treating this crime as an attempted grievous bodily harm and we have a number of active lines of enquiry.’

‘This has no place on our streets’
