Heartless! Ducklings run over at McDonald’s
WHEN she pulled up at a McDonald’s drive thru, Vicky Smith was delighted to spot these little ducklings waddling across the path.
As the charming little family paraded past, she filmed them from her car, where she and her two children were waiting in the queue to place their order.
It was a sight to melt the hardest heart...apart from that of the driver in front who promptly ran straight over them.
Miss Smith was horrified and her children upset as two of the ducklings were crushed under the wheels of the car.
The driver of the Renault Megane had placed her order and then hit the ducks as she moved to the window to collect it. After that she drove away.
Miss Smith is convinced the driver saw the ducks before running them over. ‘We were coming pletely gobsmacked – she did not even look back after she did it. My son was distraught,’ she told the news website Lincolnshire Live.
‘When we were coming back round we could see the daddy duck looking for the little ducklings.
We couldn’t believe anyone could be so heartless.
‘She placed her order and then she just drove through them.
‘We thought that it wouldn’t matter if she had to wait a few minutes for them to move so she could drive forward. She obviously saw them.’
The drama happened at the Grand Parade branch of McDonald’s in Skegness, Lincolnshire on Wednesday. Miss Smith alerted staff who arranged for the dead ducklings to be taken away.
She and her children, Saul, seven, and Eve, five, had travelled to Skegness from Barnsley for a halfterm holiday. She had been film- the ducklings for Saul, who has learning difficulties, to show his classmates what he had been up to during his break.
Instead, the children are now upset and they have been left with a horrific memory from their holiday. ‘Saul’s been telling his granddad about the nasty woman who drove over the ducklings,’ Miss Smith said.
‘We’d been taking pictures of everything – it’s sad that something like this had to happen.’
