IN SEPTEMBER of 2015, the BBC reporter Charlotte Callen was woken in the middle of the night by the sound of a man screaming in agony. That man was Mark van Dongen, whose former girlfriend, Berlinah Wallace, had attacked him with acid. The unbearable pain led to Mark ending his life in a Belgian hospital. Now, Charlotte presents TOXIC LOVE: THE MARK VAN DONGEN STORY (RADIO 4, 11AM), following events from the moment she heard Mark’s screams to the trial where Berlinah was found guilty of the acid attack, but was cleared of murder.
