LSE gets the lowest mark for teaching

-

THE London School of Economics is now the only university in the elite Russell Group to hold the bottom mark for teaching standards.

The elite university, which is widely regarded as one of the best in the world, retained its bronze grade – lower than some former polytechnics – in government ra n k i n g s published yesterday.

The Teaching Excellence Framework was introduced last year amid fears that universities were focusing too much on research at the expense of students’ learning.

This year, the university did not re-enter the TEF process, meaning its previous score stands. A spokesman said: ‘LSE is wholly committed to improving teaching.

‘A resubmission to the TEF this year would not have fully captured the benefits of the activity taking place at the school.’
