DESTINATION OF THE MONTH
Alaska
The largest state in the whole of the USA, Alaska is unlike anywhere else on earth. Set against a breathtaking backdrop of glittering glaciers, inconceivable mountainscapes and scintillating crystal lakes, it is a land of grand adventure. Not only does Alaska tirelessly impress with its overwhelming raw beauty, but its sheer enormity means it presents a wealth of opportunities for exploration. Visitors can witness grizzly bears fishing for salmon in Katmai National Park and enjoy guided trails through the epic wilderness of Denali National Park, where North America’s highest peak, Mount McKinley, can also be seen. Home to an incredible host of animals, whale-watching is also popular in Alaska’s capital of Juneau. Nature-enthusiasts can partake in several awe-inspiring glacial walks through sites such as Tracy Arm Fjord and Mendenhall Glaciers, or hike the Kenai Mountains for uninterrupted views of unspoiled nature. As such a diverse destination, Alaska also has plenty to offer culture vultures, with Alaskaland Pioneer Park offering a mine, a museum and a replica of a Native American village, all whilst showcasing the gold-rush history of the pristine *olden Heart City’ of Fairbanks. A canvas for aurora borealis, Fairbanks is also the perfect place to admire earth’s most spectacular natural light display. No matter how you decide to spend your time in Alaska, you can always reflect on your experiences with a relaxing trip to the Chena Hot Springs for a soothing thermal bath.
