Cheers, Dave, and one for yourself

-

THE winchester Club is holding a wake for Glynn edwards, aka dave the Barman, who has died, aged 87.

Part of the genius of Minder was that the supporting characters were so well drawn, none more so than dave.

For a jobbing actor, edwards was in some great British movies, including Zulu and Get Carter, as well as playing Frank Spencer’s cantankerous neighbour in Some Mothers do ’Ave ’em. dave was the glue which held the winchester together.

one of my favourite scenes was when he nearly put his jaw out singing Unchained Melody. oh, my larve, my dar-lin’! ‘that was a hit for Jimmy young, you know. Before he became Jimmy young.’

Large VAT, please, dave. Slate.
