Woman, 27, drowns playing phone game
A YOUNG woman taking part in a mobile phone-based treasure hunt drowned after the game led her into a sewer system during a flash flood.
The 27-year-old, who has not been identified, was one of a group of four caught inside Prague’s drain system by torrential rains.
They were taking part in ‘geocaching’, a game in which participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates, often using a smartphone. Players then attempt to find the ‘geocache’, usually a container or marker, at that location.
But rapidly rising water from the storm trapped them in the Czech capital’s underground drainage system on Saturday night.
A police spokesman said: ‘A woman was found dead in the Vltava river and a man is still missing.’ The sewer system drains into the Vltava.
Police believe the group underestimated how quickly the weather changed. The other two members of the group managed to escape and were hospitalised, the police spokesman added. The search for the missing man is set to resume today.
