BRITISH sprinter Zharnel Hughes has run the fastest 100 metres in the world this year, clocking 9.91sec to win the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica. The 22-year-old was just 0.04sec off Linford Christie’s 25-year-old national record of 9.87sec. ‘I am feeling really good, I have to give God thanks first for making this possible and my team,’ said Hughes. Elsewhere, Dina Asher-Smith ran 10.93sec — 0.01sec outside her national record — to win the 100m at the Stockholm Diamond League yesterday. Lorraine Ugen won the long jump with 6.85m and Laura Muir was second in the 1500m.
