FRACTURED SKULL, BUT ALL BLACKS IN THE CLEAR

- WILL KELLEHER

THIS is the moment France’s Remy Grosso fractured his skull in two places after being smashed by New Zealand prop Ofa Tu’ungafasi. The winger had already been tackled high by flanker Sam Cane when Tu’ungafasi belted him with his right shoulder. Grosso had to be taken to hospital but English referee Luke Pearce decided the tackle was only a penalty. France coach Jacques Brunel was livid, saying: ‘I think that the way he was hit was illegal.’ Tu’ugafasi wrote to Grosso on Twitter after the game, saying: ‘Remy, I hope you’re recovering well. It was a physical game and it wasn’t my intention to hurt you.’ Incredibly, reports in New Zealand suggest the pair are likely to be cleared today. The citing process for these internationals is run by the host unions, not World Rugby. World Rugby’s disciplinary regulations suggest it should result in at least a six-week ban. But remarkably it seems the All Blacks will get off scot-free.
