Another young Lion will ply his trade in Germany

- SAMI MOKBEL

ONE of England’s brightest talents may soon be on his way to Germany, with Sunderland’s 16-year-old striker Sam Greenwood a target for Stuttgart. The England Under 16 international has a big future ahead of him, but he is set to follow in the footsteps of a growing number of this country’s best emerging talent by going to Germany. Sunderland are trying to nail Greenwood, who scored or assisted 12 goals in 15 games in the Under 18s Premier League last season, to a professional contract, but no deal has yet been reached. Forward Jadon Sancho, 18, has impressed at Borussia Dortmund after moving from Manchester City last summer and was tipped as a bolter for England’s World Cup squad. West Ham’s 19-year-old Reece Oxford also went to Germany at the start of last season, joining Borussia Monchengladbach on loan. Ademola Lookman, 20, joined RB Leipzig from Everton in January, while Tottenham

winger Keanan Bennetts left for Monchengladbach last month, where he will join former Crystal Palace and England Under 18 defender Mandela Egbo. Marcus McGuane, 19, joined Barcelona from Arsenal in January and last summer 20-year-old Chris Willock left the Emirates for Benfica.
