Solar savings
FOLLOWING the letter ‘Beware of solar savings that do not exist’ (Mail), you can still make solar panels pay.
My wife and I decided to have them fitted and we searched a few companies, and a chap called round, explained it all and quoted a price of £5,999.
Searching the net once again, we found a company that gave us a good rate, so we went ahead.
As soon as the panels were fitted the savings started; £57 a month to our electricity supplied was reduced to £35 a month, and the saving continued.
We have a south-facing location, so for most of the sunny days we are literally getting free electricity, and with the Government FIT (feed-in tariff) we receive money every three months — the amount depending on the time of year.
Since installing the panels in 2015, we have received nearly £1,900 in FIT payments, as well as our electricity bill reducing by £22 a month. So far, we have recouped nearly £2,200.
We must pay the loan back, which will take five years but then we’ll have free electricity and FIT payments for the next 15 years.
I am sorry for those who feel they have lost out and I hope they get recompense, but I would recommend solar panels. They’re certainly better than these windmills sprouting up all over the place.
