BBC will not defuse Lineker’s F-bombs

- Charles Sale

GARY LinekeR will be the most high-profile figure on the BBC over the next month as the corporation’s lead World Cup presenter.

That makes it even more remarkable that the BBC have not asked the 57-year-old to rein back on his obscene comments on social media.

instead they have turned a blind eye to Lineker using the F-word twice on Twitter in the last few days. Lineker, who has seven million followers, posted tweets — subsequently deleted — saying: ‘Oh no, not the Mexican f****** wave.’ And ‘What a f****** great goal from nacho. Stunning strike.’

Despite having a freelance status and working for other channels such as BT Sport, Lineker is best known since an illustrious playing career for his BBC work as host of Match of the Day.

A BBC spokesman said only: ‘ Gary’s social media accounts are his own personal accounts.’

KIRSTY GALLACHER, who has left Sky Sports to pursue other opportunities including being a highly paid ambassador for William Hill, will begin her duties for the bookmakers at a modest England fans event in a London pub today.

THe new age of equal opportunities in football does not seem to have registered with iTV pundit Patrice evra, judging by his hugely patronising behaviour towards eni Aluko (right).

On air, the former Manchester United defender applauded well- informed co-panellist Aluko’s analysis before the Costa Rica v Serbia match. iTV consider female presenter Jacqui Oakley’s mild rebuke to evra as sufficient reaction from the network.

ENGLAND are likely to be cheered on in Volgograd tonight by the smallest following at a World Cup in recent memory. The FA have sold around 2,000 tickets for the match against Tunisia and that includes friends and family. The official supporters’ turn-out will be boosted to some extent by those who have bought tickets in the general sale.
