Laser treatment for menopause

-

LAseR treatment may help menopausal women with a common symptom of the menopause — genitourinary syndrome (gsM), which leads to dryness, painful burning sensations, and a loss of libido.

in a U.s. study, more than 300 women with gsM received three five-minute sessions of laser treatment to the area as well as the uterus, bladder and urethra.

Results, reported in the journal Lasers in surgery and Medicine, showed that dryness symptoms more than halved and 35 per cent of the women reported an improved sex life.

it is thought that the laser heat increases blood flow and stimulates cells to produce more collagen and elastin — proteins that are important for tissue health.
