I Am not surprised at the new research that claims young people are less intelligent than the older generation (mail).

A couple of years ago I studied for an english Literature degree as a mature student. the first thing I noticed was that none of the young ones had read any of the books we were studying. I don’t know what they studied to pass their A-levels.

At every lecture and tutorial, the tutor asked who had read the book. It was only my hand in the air every time, much to the tutor’s amusement. In the end, I was embarrassed to admit it.

I have given up counting how many times I have heard the phrase ‘it was before my time’ by a younger person in relation to a historical event. my response is always: ‘1066 was well before my time, but I know what happened then.’ JACqUEE StOROzYNSkI-tOLL,
