SYMONDS AND WHYMAN FIND THEIR RHYTHM DAILY MAIL FOURSOMES

- By CARA SLOMAN

IPSwICH’S Abbie Symonds and Lottie whyman needed all their county experience and determination to knock out Rushmere and clinch a spot in the fifth round of the Daily Mail Foursomes. The visiting pair, who both play for Suffolk, survived a scare when they found themselves three down against June Kenworthy and Margaret Scales. Symonds, off four, admitted: ‘we hadn’t played our best on the front nine. You have to refocus. You have to dig deep and think, “I’m a single figure handicapper. Just play like you know you can play”.’ And that is exactly what they did. Back-to-back birdies and a par brought them level after 13 and they continued their revival, halving the last with a par to seal a one-up victory. ‘It was definitely our closest match,’ said Symonds, 21. ‘we’re lucky we gel so well together. we have similar games and we’re really good friends.’ The pair would love to keep their winning run going all the way to the october grand finals at the Marriott St Pierre in South wales with Symonds adding: ‘It would be nice to see how far we can get and see if we can make it to the last 16.’
