IT’S TIME TO USE VAR EVEN MORE

-

VAR has been doing a very good job at this World Cup, but, if anything, it is not being used enough. egypt’s Abdallah Said dived, blatantly, against Uruguay on Friday. referee Bjorn Kuipers wasn’t buying it, but nor did he take further action. That is where VAR should come in. It would have been the work of a moment, at a break in play or even half-time, to have notified the official that the incident was worthy of a card. he could have even been given the opportunity to review it personally if he wished. Said could then have received the punishment his attempted deception deserved and egypt would not have persevered with the tactic. It seems strange that FIFA are only willing to embrace some of the truth, not all of it, and that dishonesty simply curbed is instead allowed to flourish.

ANDY MURRAY says he has ‘zero expectations’ of his comeback at Queen’s today — and for his sake, nor should we.
