THE Queen was celebrating the announcement of a new greatgranddaughter yesterday after Zara Tindall gave birth.

The as yet unnamed girl weighed in at 9lb 3oz – the heaviest royal baby in recent years.

Zara, Princess Anne’s 37-year-old daughter, gave birth on Monday at Stroud Maternity Unit in Gloucestershire. Her husband, former England rugby captain Mike Tindall, was present.

The new baby – a sister for fouryear-old Mia – will not be given a royal title but will be 19th in line to the throne.

Sources have told the Daily Mail that, despite the size of her second child, Zara was in and out of hospital in less than a day.

Zara is an equestrian like her mother, and one family friend said: ‘ Zara is a professional sportswoman, very strong and fit. And she is very much her mother’s daughter.’ It is understood that she plans to return to competitive eventing, possibly towards the end of the season in September or October. If not, she will begin training in January with a view to competing next spring.

Zara was last seen in public with her husband at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding at Windsor Castle a month ago, sporting a prominent bump.

Her new daughter is the fourth grandchild for Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, and the seventh greatgrandchild for the Queen and Prince Philip. She will enjoy an idyllic and carefree childhood with her sister and cousins Savannah and Isla Phillips on their grandmother’s Gatcombe Park Estate in Gloucestershire, where both Zara and her brother Peter and his wife Autumn live.

The new baby beat the record previously held by Savannah, who was 8lb 8oz when she was born in 2010. Prince Louis of Cambridge, born in April, was close behind at 8lb 7oz. The average weight of a baby in the UK is around 7lb 7oz.

In December 2016 Zara lost the baby she was carrying weeks after announcing her pregnancy.
