England ace crocks his shoulder... don’t worry though, it’s only the manager!

-

A PROMINENT member of England’s World Cup squad was hospitalised last night. But it was manager Gareth Southgate who suffered an injury, not a star player.

The 47-year-old dislocated his right shoulder after falling while jogging near the team base in Repino yesterday.

Only 36 hours earlier, the former Aston Villa and England defender had been jumping for joy after Harry Kane’s late winner against Tunisia on Monday night.

A report on the FA website quoted Southgate as saying: ‘I might not be celebrating any goals as athletically in future.’

Team doctor Rob Chakraverty said the England boss would need to restrain himself during Sunday’s second group game against Panama. Last night Southgate added: ‘The doc has made it clear punching the air is not an option.

‘We have got such a great support team and they were there very quickly.

‘They were supposed to be relaxing because we let the players have a bit of time off. I had brilliant help and I am just sorry I managed to ruin their day off.’

Southgate was back in time for a meeting with his players but with his arm in a sling. ‘It is better me than one of the players,’ he admitted. ‘They were asking “what have you been doing!?” I am just a bit gutted because I was on for my record 10k time!’

At Brazil 2014, England physio Gary Lewin dislocated his ankle celebrating a goal against Italy.
