Lord Bragg’s Love Island temptation

CUltURAl guru Melvyn Bragg admits that even he is prepared to be seduced by itV2’s tawdry reality show, love island.

the series, for which more people applied this year than Oxbridge, sees swimsuit-clad twentysomethings couple up with fellow ‘islanders’ to avoid being voted off by the public. ‘ the popularity of series like love island show that we’re becoming increasingly eccentric and increasingly incompetent — in equal measure,’ Oxford alumnus lord Bragg tells me.

‘i mean to watch it. i haven’t yet, but i will. i always like to watch things that are very popular. Maybe i’ll get addicted.’
