Lifeboats sunk by the PC penpushers

-

WHY have two Whitby lifeboat men been sacked for a stupid prank? It was blown out of all proportion by an overzealous female boss. Did she want to show her power over these men, who are willing to face death to save the lives of those in peril on the sea? I grew up in Whitby and many times saw high waves crashing over the harbour entrance in a storm. If you heard the lifeboat warning alarm go off, a shiver went down your spine. Some poor soul was in danger and brave lads were going out in terrible conditions to try to save them. Would you drop tools, leave your children and run when the call goes out to launch a lifeboat in stormy seas? Would you risk your life to save others for no glory and no pay? I hope the RNLI comes to its senses and reinstates these courageous heroes. MARGARET DAVIES, Portsmouth, Hants. IT IS with regret that I informed the RNLI I have cancelled my monthly direct debit after two volunteers were sacked over joke mugs. I was disgusted to read the CEO is on a pay package of £162,000, with 35 other executives on more than £65,000. These salaries are more of an obscenity than a couple of mugs, particularly when the public is asked to dig deep to pay for lifeboats. We do not wish to hear about ridiculous Left-wing values, we just want to support the brave volunteers who risk their lives saving others.

CHRIS MATTHEWS, Dudley, W. Mids.
