Lloyds axes 450 jobs in web push

-

LLOYDS is axing 450 jobs as it seeks to slash costs and push customers into using the internet.

The positions being scrapped are mostly back-office roles, and follow 930 job losses earlier this year.

Lloyds is dramatically scaling back its branch network, with 195 branches shut in 2017 alone.

Another 98 branches are set to close this year.

It is also creating 255 new technology-focused positions as part of a £3bn investment over the next three years.

The lender claims it is simply following trends as more and more customers bank on the internet.

But critics argue that Lloyds and other banks are forcing users to go online by shutting branches.
