Maradona’s £10k a day
SINCE Gianni Infantino introduced his legends concept to prove he was bringing football back to FIFA, it has been insisted that they are only paid travel, accommodation and expenses.
But it has now emerged from inside the Confederations that diego Maradona, the biggest name in Gianni’s travelling troupe, is being paid £10,000 a day when on FIFA duty. It’s not known whether that included his appearance at Argentina’s opening draw against Iceland when he caused a storm by pulling the sides of his eyes in a racist gesture towards a group of South Korean fans. He was also puffing a cigar in a non-smoking stadium.
It is also understood that the legends are to be officially paid through FIFA’s foundation budget in future as they make personal appearances at charitable events.
