In a 2006 police interview at Fareham Station, Jane Barton refuses to answer questions about the use of syringe drivers in reference to the death of Geoffrey Packman aged 67.

DETECTIVE: It’s titled Graseby Medical Instructions for the Use of [inaudible] Syringe Drivers, and it depicts that there are three types of syringe drivers: the Variable Syringe Driver MS 16, a Fixed Syringe Driver MS 18 and the Variable Speed Driver MS 26. What are the differences between these syringe drivers? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: What is the difference between the MS 16A and the MS 26? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: Has one got a boost facility? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: What is a boost facility? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: I believe they are actually both different colours. What colour was the syringe driver used in the case of [patient] Mr Packman? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: So why was Mr Packman given drugs by way of a syringe driver? And correct me if I’m wrong, doctor, but Mr Packman was still able to take oral medicine. Why wasn’t he given pills, or Oramorph instead of a sub cut syringe driver? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: (Pause) Why was it necessary to put Mr Packman on a syringe driver? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: (Pause) Why isn’t there an entry on the medical records that the use of a syringe driver was now deemed necessary? BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: Page 55 are the only notes made by you and there’s no mention of a need for a syringe driver. BARTON: No comment.

DETECTIVE: So who deemed it necessary then? BARTON: No comment. DETECTIVE: Was it you? BARTON: No comment.
