WHY I’M WORRIED ABOUT . . .

-

THE British sun. This weekend, I watched a red-faced man, sweat prickling his body, jog past me as the sun was at its peak. I had half a mind to run after him and tell him to stop.

When the UK experiences a heatwave, it induces a kind of euphoria — and, while I don’t want to ruin the party, I would like to urge caution.

People still believe that the UK sun is harmless. But visit A&E and see those with severe sunburn or collapsed from heat exhaustion and you soon realise it is not.

So, apply sunscreen, wear thin clothes and keep drinking fluids. And jog, by all means — just not at midday.
