SURVEYS have shown the average NHS GP has 42 face-to-face appointments a day, as well as up to 30 phone consultations. Writing in The BMJ recently, GPs said ten-minute consultations were too short for the amount of work required to meet patients’ needs and that doctors must support a call from the British Medical Association to limit the daily number of consultations.
