THE wife of Gerry Murphy, Burberry’s incoming chairman, has picked up almost £108,000 worth of its stock.

Burberry said Marian Murphy had bought 5,000 shares at 2157p each. In the past she has also taken stakes in companies where her husband has worked, including Tate & Lyle, BAT and Kingfisher.

Murphy was named chairman designate in April and takes over from Sir John Peace at the end of the year.

He is also chairman of the European arm of private equity company Blackstone.
