Matalan £1.5m boss

MaTalan’S chief executive pocketed £1.5m last year amid a row among warehouse staff over pay.

Company accounts revealed Matalan’s highest-paid director, believed to be boss Jason Hargreaves, 49, took home a £900,000 bonus on top of a basic pay of £600,000. The retailer’s chief executive is the son of John Hargreaves, 74, who founded the firm in 1985.

around 700 Matalan workers threatened to strike in July last year. The GMB union accused Matalan of failing to give adequate rewards for warehouse staff, but workers voted to accept a pay deal.
