Wenger: Walker’s no defender

- SAMI MOKBEL

ARSENE WENGER has identified defender Kyle Walker as England’s World Cup weak link. The ex-Arsenal boss fears Gareth Southgate will come to regret his decision to utilise the Manchester City star, who is a right back by trade, as a central defender. Walker has helped his side to a 100 per cent start in the tournament, though he did concede a penalty in the 2-1 win over Tunisia. Wenger told BeIN SPORTS: ‘He’s not a real defender and especially not a central defender. He can be subject to making defensive mistakes which he would not pay for when he plays on the right.’ Wenger suggested that Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has only been used as a late substitute against Tunisia, should play in the back three instead of Walker. ‘He can play in the middle of the defence and as a midfielder,’ he said. ‘I don’t know why he has not been used at all.’
