Roger eyes ninth title . . . and feels sexy!

- by MATTHEW LAMBERT

WHERE most tennis players hustle in and out of press conferences in logoed training gear, Roger Federer strolled in yesterday wearing a jacket and button-up shirt. The king of the All England Club was holding court and it was not long before a journalist commented: ‘You look even more handsome than last year.’ In answer to her follow-up question of how he feels physically, at the ripe old age of 36, Federer grinned like a Cheshire Cat and replied: ‘Incredibly sexy.’ The irrepressible Swiss (right) has gone with the same formula that produced his eighth Wimbledon title last year, skipping the clay-court season and playing two grass-court events in Germany last month. He won the Stuttgart title and was runner-up in Halle. ‘I’m feeling good,’ said Federer, who opens the defence of his crown today at 1pm on Centre Court against Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic. ‘I was tired at the beginning of the week because of the nine matches I played in 12 days in Stuttgart and Halle. I think the three months did me a world of good, that I didn’t play during the clay season. ‘We had a great time — vacation, family time, practice, fitness, tennis. Everything worked very well. ‘This week was very much for me just to recover, come in fresh. In practice everything is going well, I’m hitting the ball well.’ Federer even had a word of encouragement for 17-year-old Scottish junior Aidan McHugh, with whom he has practised this week. ‘I was impressed,’ he said. ‘They’re really nice people. I like the Scottish. It was great fun. I wish him well.’
