DESPITE the glaring heat, Serena Williams wrapped up in a long-sleeved tennis dress and skin-coloured tights as she returned to Wimbledon yesterday.
The tennis star, who missed last year’s tournament to have to her daughter, sported the conservative look in temperatures of almost 0C (86F) for her first round match. She knocked Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus out of the competition with a 7-5 6- win on Court 1. Miss Williams’ outfit was chosen for medical reasons – much like her allblack catsuit, which caused a stir at the French Open in May. She told a post-match press conference that the tights were designed to ‘keep compression on my legs for health reasons’. She added: ‘It worked out great – I feel good.’
