Hop it! Frog in 39p Aldi salad

-

A SHOPPER was stunned to find rather more green than usual in her bag of Aldi lettuce – after a frog popped up in it.

The supermarket said it would offer a refund after Shevaughan Tolputt, 37, found the amphibian in her 39p salad, bought from a branch in Redruth, Cornwall. The frog had been in the fridge for several hours before it was let out of the bag and released into a nearby field.

Mrs Tolputt, a council marketing worker from Carn Brae, said she saw ‘the funny side of it,’ and praised Aldi for its customer service.

She added: ‘I saw something move and there was a little pair of eyes looking back at me. He was really little.

‘I shouted to my husband and he put him in a tupperware container. He was fine, he didn’t seem unwell. Hopefully having him in the fridge for a few hours didn’t harm him.’

Mrs Tolputt and her husband released the frog in a field near a stream. ‘I’m glad that I found him and I know he’s somewhere safe,’ she said.

Mrs Tolputt said her husband was ‘ as equally surprised as her’ and her family and friends found the tale hilarious.

She added: ‘I spoke to the Aldi customer service team and they are looking into it.’ An Aldi spokesman said: ‘We’re sorry to hear of Mrs Tolputt’s experience and have offered her a full refund. This type of incident, while incredibly rare, can naturally occur with fresh produce.’
