Labour’s lost voters
I Was brought up in a strong Labour environment. Dad worked in the shipyards, but hated the militants because he knew it was his duty to
do a good job and he had a responsibility to care for his wife and family.
He knew when strikes were planned and sought alternative employment. He wasn’t a scab, he was a pragmatist and put his family first. He is 94 and still supports Labour, but won’t vote for them — or anyone else.
I used to support Labour and hated Maggie Thatcher, but grew to admire her, particularly because of the Falklands conflict. I am pleased she was the prime minister at that time.
The modern Labour Party is on a path to destruction. For example, by the deselection of honourable MPs who put their constituent’s views first. Harriet Harman is just one
facing this threat. I admire politicians who stand by their beliefs.
I’d like to see a stronger Labour party emerge, reform under a new banner and kick out the extreme Left.
