WE SHOULD be grateful Carrie Gracie did not take the BBC to court over her equal pay claim. As it stands, her payout will be funded by 2,000 licence fee payers. If it had gone to court, how much more would have been awarded for ‘hurt feelings’?

What makes someone who presents occasional short pieces to camera worth a sixfigure salary? Or even more if they read from an autocue?
