Special day all eyes weren’t on the bride

‘Requested Three Lions at the disco’

It IS the one day in a woman’s life when she expects to be the centre of attention.

But on Saturday, hundreds of British brides were forced to share the spotlight with 11 men.

Some banned England’s World Cup quarter-final from their big day, with guests forbidden to watch the match on their phones.

But others decided to embrace the buzz and screen it in an ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ approach.

Bride Hayley Adams, 31, decided at the last minute that the game should be squeezed into the tight wedding schedule. Staff at the wedding venue, the Georgian townhouse in Norwich, quickly arranged for it to be projected on to a screen in an outhouse.

the only concern – there were just 15 minutes between the end of the ceremony and kick-off.

Mrs Adams, who has two daughters with new husband James, said: ‘It was amazing, it just worked out really well.

‘We had to cut the pictures a little short and we had to delay the start of the meal, but we managed to get everyone in front of the screen in time for kick-off.’

Meanwhile, tottenham fan Dimitri Langford, 30, was lent a 42-inch tV by his workplace when he and childhood sweetheart Sarah, 27, decided to screen the match at their wedding.

the couple chose Polstead village hall near Colchester for the reception, where guests celebrated their marriage – and then England’s win.

Football-mad bride Nadine Hanlon didn’t seem to need convincing to show the match, and was pictured watching with trepidation as the game unfolded.

But when Nicole Lawson, 24, first realised the match could clash with her wedding to Josh, 25, she was reluctant to share her day with the England team. then after seeing her fiance’s ‘raw emotion’ watching the Colombia match, she realised how important it was to him.

Unfortunately the couple’s 18th century mansion venue in Mold in North Wales, did not have any tV ports – so they asked guests to bring their laptops and iPads instead.

Mr Lawson said: ‘We all managed to watch the game, but because there were so many devices attached to one Wi-Fi, the iPads were all behind or ahead of each other. It meant you’d hear a groan or cheer from one table and everyone would rush towards it.’

He said that by the end of the day, his new wife was ‘completely converted’ to football, adding: ‘She was actually the one who requested three Lions at the disco.’
