Kate’s family outnumber the royal guests

-

WITH the Queen and Prince Philip absent, the royals found themselves outnumbered yesterday by the close-knit Middletons.

Aside from the Cambridges, there were just four other HRHs – Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and his new wife the Duchess of Sussex.

Meanwhile the Middletons were out in force, with Kate’s parents Michael and Carole beaming with pride at their growing family.

Mrs Middleton, 63, smiled broadly as she walked into the chapel, wearing an elegant green dress with matching hat and heels.

Kate’s 34-year-old sister Pippa – showing a slight baby bump of her own under an iceblue dress – and her husband James Matthews also turned out, along with Kate and Pippa’s brother James, 31. The clan was completed by baby Louis’ godmother Lucy Middleton, Michael’s niece.

Shortly before the 40-minute service began, the royal party – led by Charles and Camilla – walked the few yards from St James’s Palace across Colour Court and into the chapel.

Last in the group were the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Harry, 33, appeared rather stern and protective of his wife, and notably failed to smile for the waiting media.

Fortunately 36-year- old Meghan – who looked sophisticated in a khaki outfit – was more relaxed, giggling as she chatted with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Camilla, as smart as usual in a cream coat and dress, fanned herself with her programme as she walked back into the palace following the service, and could be heard cheerfully commenting about how hot it had been.
