Baby milk recipe change makes infants ill, say parents

-

A NEW recipe for Aptamil baby milk formula has been making some infants ill, distressed parents have claimed.

They have contacted the brand saying babies are vomiting after trying the new formula for Aptamil First Infant Milk, while some are simply refusing to drink it.

Many mothers have difficulty getting babies to accept formula milk if they cannot breastfeed for any reason, and changing the taste can put the whole process back to square one.

Aptamil is made by the French food giant Danone, whose Aptaclub Facebook page has been inundated with comments from concerned parents saying their children are unsettled, being sick or suffering with diarrhoea.

Mothers say the recipe change means it smells like milk that has gone off, while others claim the powder forms clumps and is difficult for babies to drink.

Danone says it has carried out extensive taste and safety checks, but added that it is ‘taking all feedback very seriously’. It is investigating the complaints and has set up a helpline for parents.

The firm added the new formula had to be mixed ‘slightly differently’ and that the instructions on packs had been updated.
