BEATLEs cartoon Yellow submarine is back in cinemas to mark its 50th anniversary. But the surviving Mop Tops have yet to appease Roger McGough, drafted in to rescue the script with some authentic Fab Fourisms. ‘That’s what p****d me off at the end of it, very little money and no credit,’ says McGough, who got £500 for his troubles. The scouse poet, who performed as The scaffold with sir Paul McCartney’s younger brother Mike, generously adds: ‘But it was a delightful thing to have done and i’m proud of it.’ MADONNA stocked up at the National Portrait Gallery gift shop this weekend after dropping by to see the Michael Jackson exhibition.

Wearing a hat emblazoned with the words ‘Beautiful Game’ and accompanied by her adopted daughter Mercy, 12, the singer posted this image of her holding up an exhibition catalogue illustrated with a snap of her alongside the King of Pop.

It was a weekend of culture for the 59-year-old, who also visited the Wireless Festival in Finsbury Park.
