Pivac: Wales job a no-brainer

- DAVID KENT

WAYNE PIVAC says that agreeing to replace Warren Gatland as Wales coach was a ‘no-brainer’ — even if he does not take over for 16 months. Pivac, 55, the Scarlets head coach, got the job on Monday but won’t join the Welsh Rugby Union until next July. He will then succeed fellow New Zealander Gatland in November after the 2019 Rugby World Cup. ‘It was a no-brainer,’ said Pivac at a Cardiff press conference to unveil him as the 23rd Wales coach. ‘It’s a huge honour. I want to continue the strong work done by Warren and his team.’ Pivac, a former Auckland policeman, was chosen ahead of fellow Kiwis Dave Rennie and Scott Robertson, who were also on the shortlist.
