So much for Waistcoat Wednesday!

THE country embraced Waistcoat Wednesday yesterday as fans emulated Gareth Southgate’s unique style.

The England manager has charmed fans in his Marks & Spencer jacket. He was joined by thousands of waistcoat wearers ahead of last night’s semi-final.

Good Morning Britain hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid wore waistcoats during the programme – as did fellow ITV presenters Phillip Schofield and Lorraine Kelly on This Morning.

The BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire also pulled on a waistcoat as she presented her BBC2 news show.

Pupils from Minster CofE Primary School in Ramsgate, Kent, dressed for the occasion too.

Harry Webster, 11, who wore a grey waistcoat, said: ‘Gareth Southgate has given us hope. The smart way he dresses makes it look like he is taking it seriously.’

It wasn’t just humans slipping into the clothing – as Gladstone the Treasury mouser joined in. The cat wore a grey waistcoat with stylish black buttons.
